Why not develop a new concept along these lines, one for micro UAVs or larger UAVs which used the fuel in a solid state as part of the wing structure during take-off and during the mission. Then allow the solid fuel to dissolve as the flight progressed? UAV Design Which Uses Solid Dissolvable Fuel As Part of Wing Structure It appears possible to create an unmanned aerial vehicle or UAV, which has a wing structure made up of its own fuel. As the flight progresses the aircraft uses up this fuel, the plane becomes lighter, less strength in its wing structure is needed, and everything works fine. This can be done with a polymer based fuel that is solid at first but then slowly dissolves into a liquid. New UAV Design Strategy Considered - Wing Structure As Fuel Can we create an unmanned aerial vehicle which would convert its own wing structure into fuel for the flight? What if that fuel were a polymer solution which was a solid on takeoff, but then dissolved into a liquid once the flight operations began? And what about the remaining structure inside the wing?
